Leon Takes the Lead in Meetings Tourism With the “Meet In Leon” Program

Leon has it all: security, comfort, culture, gastronomy, history, tourism, transportation, hotels, connectivity, comfortable distances, and most of all, some of the best venues in the country, perfect for holding large-scale events.

With over 435 years of history, today Leon is a hub that unites culture, tradition and all the trappings of a modern city. Touring colonial buildings, visiting modern shopping malls, enjoying Mexico’s most important footwear trends and industry, or enjoying the best of Mexican cuisine are just a few pretexts to visit the city.

Today, Leon is a metropolis that has attracted hundreds of international events that bring millions of visitors every year. Some of the city's landmark events include the annual World Rally Championship (WRC) with over 350,000 visitors, or the yearly International Hot Air Balloon Festival with 450,000 visitors.

Leon is strategically located in the heart of Mexico, accessible by safe 6-lane highways, just 3 hours from 53% of all of Mexico’s economic activities. This, coupled with a flight connectivity of 75 daily national flights and 65 international flights, as well as over 6,400 hotel rooms, Leon is a comfortable destination for holding some of the most demanding congresses and conventions, and requires few resources for motivating attendees.

Infrastructure, service and security are key axes that have made Leon a reference point for that capacity and quality of its services, to such an extent that Conventions Market Magazine (MDC) catalogued Leon among the “Top 10 Destinations for Meetings in Mexico 2010”, as well as positioning the Poliforum Leon among the “Top Convention & Exhibition Centers in Mexico 2010” for five consecutive years.

The Poliforum Leon offers over 452,084 square feet of meeting space and world-class services. But Leon offers many more venues ideal for every need, like the Centro Fox, which is not only a library and presidential museum, but also a cultural and business center that can hold events of up to 3,000 people in its attractive open-air spaces. Or the Guanajuato Cultural Center, which not only hosts the Regional Museum and stands as an example of contemporary architecture, it also has the Bicentennial Theater, one of the two largest and best-equipped theaters in the country.

The Leon Fairgrounds has a roofed forum that can hold up to 7,000 people, carpeted and with auditorium-style seating. The Explora Park’s Lake Forum can hold up to 2,200 people in its open-air spaces, and has a floating stage on the park’s artificial lake. The Atrius Convention Center has the capacity to hold events of up to 900 people, among the many spaces Leon offers. The city hosts some of the most varied event venues in Central Mexico, permitting events of all sizes to take place within the city. Also, Leon is the first city in the country to achieve 100% qualification for the inscription and training of its Convention and Visitors Bureau, its Convention Centers and its hotels in the Mexico Meetings Network-Cvent system, the most important platform for generating international RFPs.

It is because of all this Leon is launching the “Meet In Leon” program, geared towards meeting planners and organizers of congresses, conventions, corporate groups and companies looking for new and attractive, trustworthy and safe destinations to host their next events. This program has been designed by various actors in the tourism and meetings tourism industry in Leon, such as: the Leon Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Mexican Hotel and Motel Association of Leon, the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (CANACO), the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Food Condiment Industry (CANIRAC), the Leon Historic Center Patronage, and various venues in the city.

The objective of Meet In Leon is to offer complementary and integral packages to meeting planners, from choosing the venue and the most qualified of service providers, to attractive packages that range from $55 USD in 4 and 3 star hotels and $110 USD in 5-star hotels, per person prices based on double occupancy for groups of at least 10 people, taxes included, and applied restrictions are published on the website: www.leon-mexico.com.

With this program, Leon seeks to position itself as the city with the greatest growth in meetings tourism in all of Mexico. We invite you to Meet in Leon, the strategic business center in Mexico.
