Mexico Turns Haciendas Into Meetings Tourism Spots

The State of Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, Laura Barrera Fortoul, announced the formation of an official, State of Mexico Hacienda Association charged with turning historic haciendas into tourism venues. Haciendas are large colonial estates often dating back hundreds of years, perfect for grand weddings, company offsites or other social gatherings and networking events.

“This new initiative of creating an association arose from the work on the San Andres Hacienda. The association will facilitate understanding between this sector and the government,” said Barrera Fortoul.

Currently, the State of Mexico has 14 haciendas that have the facilities for meetings and tourism services. “We want to bring greater value to these haciendas, create a catalogue, promote them through social media and websites, so that these haciendas become part of our state’s wealth of tourism products and services.”

The State of Mexico has several tourism and meetings destinations, including Toluca and Valle de Bravo.
